#3 Welcome guys!

Studying sucks.

It's not easy. It's even worse when you're studying part-time while working. It takes energy when you have none, enthusiasm when you're least prepared to give it, and mental acrobatics at odd hours of the night when the rest of the human race is fast asleep.

But we still do it, don't we? Because although studying may suck, the ultimate outcome is (eventually) worth every second of pain we all go through to get there. So to make the process a little easier on all of us, we think there's a lot to be gained by each of us sharing our ups, downs, lightbulb moments and hair-pulling tantrums. It's amazing how much easier a topic is to grasp when someone else puts it in plain English on the forum. And it's such a release when you're able to vent your plans to tear your textbook into ten million pieces and scatter them out at sea thanks to your latest mental breakdown.

The point is: make yourself at home. Spread out on our couches, lean on your fellow students and give as much as you receive. Your years of study will fly by a lot quicker and your marks will probably show a decent increase for it too.

A few rules to play by while you're here, please:
  • Don't swear. We've all been there but it'll create a more peaceful atmosphere if we keep things clean.
  • Don't be rude to other users. Fighting isn't worth depleting your time or energy for.
  • Don't post advertising or spam. Any genuine goods for sale should be listed in the Classifieds.
  • Don't post porn or other adult material. There are loads of other forums for that - this isn't one of them.
  • Don't post study guides or book transcripts. Copyright needs to be respected.
  • Don't use hate speech of any kind. Racism, sexism and all the other bad -isms are not welcome.
  • Do use this forum as often as you can. That's what real study buddies do.
Enjoy :)

#549 What is the avg waiting time for Email or SMS responses?

Posted by ryanish on 3 December 2011 - 20:04

Dear Unisa, can you please give us an indication on how long we should expect to wait for a reply by email or SMS? I have been waiting the whole week. Can't you start a number/queue system so that we can check where we are in the process? At this point I don't know if you're going to take another 1 day or 100 days to get back to me :(

#3753 GREAT feeling to be posting in THIS section!

So I've just been filling in my graduation day docs for 19 June - guests, academic dress order form, photographs - and it dawned on me that I'm a full on graduate. What a fantastic feeling :)

Sisyphus and others, join me in celebrating your upcoming graduation ceremonies!

#3634 Who's registering for what tomorrow?

Posted by BerniceEL on 3 December 2012 - 21:44

Jaseyboy and Sisyphus

The prerequisite is two of the exams I wrote this Oct/Nov and my thinking is that I couldn't have failed both. Soooo if I failed one then I will quickly register for it again this semester. I'm not sure how that will work out as I'm new at this ... but I thought I might as well give it horns before the novelty wears off. LOL :)

#3147 Should we help these people?

Posted by Dodabby on 3 July 2012 - 09:57

I do not mind helping at all, but quite honestly two days/ one week / even two weeks before an exam, I just don't have time. I am heads down up to 6 weeks before an exam, i start studying very early and find it unfair of people to expect me to give up my study time to help them, when they clearly cannot be bothered.

#1993 Has anyone ever looked down on you for saying you're studying at Unisa?

Posted by Psyentist on 9 January 2012 - 16:38

Well I studied towards a different degree and never completed it through Stellenbosch University. My friends think I should do some modules through Unisa and return there, but I love the independence and being able to make money at the same time. A Unisa degree is just as valid as a similar one from a "go to class" University. But generally speaking if I was a boss of a company I would choose to hire a UNISA graduate as I will know I am getting a person with good time management skills and discipline and perserverance. At University I was playing around for the most part, but studying through UNISA has taught me a lot about responsibility, so I am proud to be a UNISA student and if anyone ever insults me I will tell them that.

#4367 Is it possible

Posted by Vixen on 18 April 2014 - 23:22

Well, if your question is whether u can manage 5 or 6 modules per semester then the answer is, Yes. I have been been doing 5 modules per semester since i started in 2012 and so far about 17 distinctions out of the 20 i have done, plus, i have never even come close to failing. Plus, i have a fulltime job, 8 to 5, i have a 6 year old daughter and i am married. I intend to do 6/6 modules next year, meaning end of next year i will graduate, having have completed my LLB in the minimum prescribed 4 years. So YES. THE ANSWER IS YES. YOU CAN DO IT!
